I wish I could show the truly wondrous…texture of this van’s paint finish. I’m guessing this has been painted with the bitumen roofing tar used widely in Shetland for felt roofs. Proper underseal would be too expensive.But then, anything to preserve something as glorious as an AX, direct descendent of the 2CV…ah, how I recall journeys from Lerwick to Hillswick, seatless in the back of one of these, perched on a bale of straw…

Sounds like a great idea. I remember painting submarine anti fouling on the underside of my old Cortina estate in the 80's. The bodywork on top eventually rusted away but the underside was perfect. I wish I had done an all over job like the guy in Lerwick and you're right, it looks great.
That post reminds me very much of the time when Geordie Jacobson did 'Da week's dat awa', on Radio Shetland, telling all about the woes of owning a Citroen 2CV.It also reminds me of watching Citroen 2CV racing on Eurosport, and the horrors of driving a van like that for several years.Ahhh, nostalgia. A word which should not be associated with any Citroen. 😉
