The Last Days of Gasoline

Rough sketch of a new song

In the last days of gasoline

We drove down to the sea

In a German convertible

Someone gave away for free

Noone would pay the prices

They were charging for fuel

But that day, on the motorway

Nothing ever felt so cool

I loved that car

Its lines so clear and clean

And I loved you

In the last days of gasoline

We walked on the shore

Barefoot in the surf

Sun and wind and the salty air

More than we deserved

You loved that place

More than anywhere you’d been

And you loved me

In the last days of gasoline

We ran out of petrol

We ran out of time

And we walked back home

It was such a long, hard climb

But I loved that day

The sweetest kind of dream

When we were in love

In the last days of gasoline
