In Uddingston

The continuing song-sequence known as The Camper Van Cantata

Several conjunctions of notes found in this song may be familiar from the work of Mr Peter Nardini (Larkhall), Mr Martin Stephenson (Jemimaville) and the late Mr Michael Marra (Tannadice). Something to do with multisyllabic Scottish placenames.

In Uddingston

There used to be a zoo, you know

In Lanarkshire, just outside of Glasgow

We sit and watch Sky TV

For we don’t trust the BBC

In Uddingston

In Uddingston

In Uddingston

The air is full of caramel

The Tunnocks factory

Gives everything a lovely smell

We never eat the teacakes though

Since Mr Tunnock voted no

In Uddingston

In Uddingston

At Calderpark

The zoo once had a Polar Bear

With yellow fur

Affected by the smoky air

Now what we breathe is sweet and clean

We often think of voting green

In Uddingston

In Uddingston

Old Edinburgh Road reminds me of the past

But that’s the thing with history it doesn’t last

There’s just one destination in the new regime

Estate of all my hopes, the suburb of my dreams
