Songs by Bruce Cockburn, Nick Cave, one Patty and another Patti

Proper show this week, with speaking and everything… the Mixcloud link is here.
Still find it odd that I didn’t know Andi Oliver had been in Rip Rig and Panic. Oh well. I met her, or at least was presented with a prize by her, at the Fortnums and Mason Awards last week. I will say no more, at least here. There’s an entire Substack newsletter about the trip on its way!
Of the other tracks, my old pal Kevin’s latest is a scarily sinister chunk of measured melodic suspicion and threat; his erstwhile guitarist Marco’s cover of the Strawberry Alarm Clock’s Pretty Song from Psych-Out (which is a movie, a rather dark one featuring a young Jack Nicholson) is excellent. It comes from his new album of covers, The Sincerest Form of Flattery which was recorded entirely and very impressively, in his spare bedroom on a Macbook Pro. Putting somewhat to shame all these people crowdfunding for recording costs. It sounds epic.
I’ve been very impressed with Bruce Cockburn’s new album O Sun O Moon (he’s 77 and his voice sound slightly worn, but still mostly unwavery) to the extent that I’m playing two tracks from it. Also, I’ve been reading and was very moved by Nick Cave and Sean O’Hagan’s book of interviews Faith Hope and Carnage, hence Albuquerque from the associated album, Carnage.
As usual, the show is streaming on Mixcloud and is also available over on 60 North Radio, in the archive and going out 7-8pm on Fridays, soundtracking the Shetland Webcams as well.
