The Window of Guitars

A song by Elvis Voe’s Fitful Head

Apologies to Mark Knopfler, who said in an interview: “I will always cross the street, to a window of guitars”, but who, as far as I know, has not used the phrase in a song. Yet.”

In the window of guitars

You can see the price of dreams

A Stratocaster to the stars

In a red and silver gleam

Epiphones are made in China

Gibsons in the USA

Fenders can come from anywhere

Depends on what you want to pay

My heart still skips a beat

The memories so sweet

I will always cross the street

To the window of guitars

They stand like signals from the past

Of what the future still could be

Old wood and steel designed to last

A dozen lifetimes easily

Chorus

Down at the crossroads there’s a place

Where souls are bought or traded in

I see the hope on every face

I see Robert Johnson’s grin

Chorus

(Many thanks to Jimmy Egypt’s in Great Western Road, Glasgow, for the pictures. I highly recommend the shop for both repairs and sales.)
